How TCA Treatment Works
During this treatment, a solution of trichloroacetic acid (TCA) is applied to the client’s face. Sometimes it needs to be neutralized after application.
Skin will be slightly redder and feel tight for 2-5 days after the treatment. Client will also begin to shed skin during this time. If you had a light TCA peel, you would peel for about 2-5 days.
You will be more sensitive to sunlight for 4-6 weeks after TCA peel, so you should avoid sun exposure for 4-6 weeks or use at least 50 SPF when you can’t. You will see results as soon as in one week as you are finished peeling, and your skin should continue to improve for 30-60 days.
Contraindications:
- Accutane within last 12 months
- Pregnancy or lactation
- Dermatitis, psoriasis, eczema,
- Currently on chemotherapy or radiation
- Cold sores
- On blood thinners
- Recent face wax
- Using Retinol, Retinoic Acid, Vitamin A – must discontinue at least 5-7 days prior treatment
- Recent cosmetic injections
- History of keloids (a type of raised scar)
